Orthognathic Surgery (Jaw Surgery)

Orthognathic surgery is a surgical procedure performed to create a more aesthetic appearance in the face.

Orthodontic treatments can align the teeth properly. However, abnormal conditions in the jaws cannot be corrected in adult patients, and orthodontic treatment may be insufficient. In such cases, a maxillofacial surgeon or a plastic surgeon, along with an orthodontist, can work together to correct this severe anomaly.

Before surgical intervention, you will undergo orthodontic treatment by wearing braces. The duration of this treatment varies depending on your anomaly, typically ranging from 6 to 12 months. Once the desired dental relationship is achieved, your orthodontist will refer you to a maxillofacial surgeon or a plastic surgeon. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a fully equipped medical hospital. During the surgery, your braces will not be removed, and elastics attached to your braces will stabilize your jaws during the healing period. After the healing period, your orthodontic treatment will continue for approximately another 6 months.

The aesthetic results achieved in a very short period are successful, and orthognathic surgery is becoming increasingly widespread today.
